Job Description:
Exciting opportunities exist for a Reclamation Specialist based out of our Edmonton office. The successful candidate(s) will be involved in various aspects of a variety of projects.
Under the supervision of senior management, this position is responsible for completing fieldwork and reporting associated with various projects throughout western Canada, primarily central and northern Alberta. The successful candidate will complete field and reporting support for Detailed Site Assessments (DSAs), Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), Phase 2 ESAs, remediation, reclamation and vegetation monitoring. This is a field and office based position, and not currently eligible for remote work.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Coordinate and execute minor and major reclamation projects, including preparation of scopes of work and cost estimates, contractor management, on-site supervision and associated reporting.
• Conducting vegetation management, including but not limited to mechanical and chemical weed control, re-vegetation supervision, and minor reclamation activities.
• Conduct Detailed Site Assessments (DSAs) in cultivated, native prairie, forested and peatland ecosystems.
• Prepare and review DSA reports and submit Reclamation Certificate applications.
o Comprehensive knowledge of the Record of Observation Tool and professional sign-off would be considered an asset.
o Knowledge of the AER OneStop Tool and ability to complete reclamation and remediation submissions (e.g., Phase 1 ESA, Phase 2 ESAs, ROSCs, RCAs, etc.) would be considered an asset.
• Conduct Phase 1 ESAs, including but not limited to: site visits, desktop review of historical information and technical report preparation.
• Execute Phase 2 ESAs, including but not limited to: action plan development, field execution of drilling and soil sampling activities, analytical interpretation and technical report preparation.
• Assist with the planning, execution, and supervision of remediation programs, including on-site supervision, contractor management and cost tracking.
o Experience with alternative remedial options including soil and groundwater treatment, Tier 2 implementation, and/or use of the Subsoil Salinity Tool (SST) would be considered an asset.
• Professional sign-off of DSAs and Phase 1 ESAs would be an asset.
• Comply with Health and Safety policies and principles
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
• A degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Biology, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or other relevant discipline with 3-7 years of relevant experience.
• Registration with a professional organization as either a professional or in-training member in Alberta. Professional designation in British Columbia or Saskatchewan would be considered an asset.
• Registration as a licensed pesticide applicator (industrial ticket) in Alberta and/or BC, or authorized assistant in Alberta would be considered an asset.
• Strong familiarity with Alberta Reclamation Criteria, Alberta Tier 1 and 2 Guidelines and ERCB Directives 50 and 58. Experience with applicable reclamation and remediation guidelines from other jurisdictions (i.e., British Columbia, Saskatchewan and federal) are an asset.
• Possess strong interpersonal skills, communication skills and technical writing skills and be able to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and provide leadership and mentorship to junior staff.
• A valid driver’s licence and clean driving record are required.
