Mr. Joe Chowaniec has dedicated over 30 years to the Environmental Services Association of Alberta (ESAA). Beginning his journey as a university student, Joe advanced through every level of the association and is now retiring from his role as Executive Director. Recognized as a visionary and leader within the environmental sector, he is esteemed by his peers. With a commitment to making a difference ‘one day at a time,’ Joe acknowledges the significant impact we possess within ourselves. He champions people, fostering achievement, and ignites a passion for excellence while celebrating their triumphs. Beyond his professional endeavors, Joe captures the splendor of our planet through his photography. In honor of Joe Chowaniec’s contributions, ESAA is proud to present two scholarships to students enrolled in environmental programs at Canadian universities or colleges.

Scholarship Information
(ESAA Members and/or ESAA Family Members)

Number of Scholarships Available: ONE (1) per year

Value of Scholarship: $2,500.00

Program Area: Full Time Studies in an Environmental Program at a recognized Canadian University, College, or Technical School.

Eligibility & Selection Criteria:
Applicants must demonstrate the following:

  • Full-time  student entering their first, second, third and fourth year of an Environment Program at a recognized Canadian University, College or Technical School.
  • Full time students enrolled in graduate studies in an Environmental program at a recognized Canadian University, College or Technical School.
  • Community involvement with non-profit organizations.
  • ESAA Member or Immediate family member of an individual employed by and ESAA Member Company (*Member must be in good standing)
 

Application Requirements:
Applicants are required to submit the following:

  1. Letter outlining why you should be considered for the scholarship and long-term career goals.  Highlight any leadership initiatives taken, any community service or volunteering, any lessons learned and challenges you’ve overcome, and any awards or recognition received.  (1000 words)
  2. Two letters of reference
  3. Application form
  4. One copy of your Official Transcripts

Timing of Scholarship Process:

Recipient Announcement/Notification: Mid September, 2024
Formal Award Presentation: October 2024 at RemTech.  

*Scholarship recipient will receive a 1-day pass for RemTech and a 1 night stay in Banff. *

The Joe Chowaniec Scholarship recognizes his years of dedication to ESAA and the Environmental Industry

The scholarship Program awards scholarships to full-time students entering their first, second, third and fourth year of an Environmental Program at a recognized Canadian University, College or Technical School in Alberta. 

This year, ESAA will be awarding TWO (2) scholarships.  One for $2,500 for ESAA Members and/or their family members and one for $1,500 for Non-ESAA members. 

PURPOSE:
To recognize exceptional academic achievement and encourage students to join Environmental Studies

ELIGIBILITY:
Applicants must be residents of Alberta and plan to enroll or be enrolled at an Alberta University, College or Technical Institute. 

DEADLINE:
Applications must be received via email to [email protected] no later than August 11, 2024.  Scholarships will be announced mid September and awarded in October at RemTech.
