Amelia is the recipient of the 2026 Joe Chowaniec Scholarship for Members Award.  Amelia  is enrolled in the Bachelor of Environmental Science Program at the University of Alberta at the Augustana Faculty.  Amelia is driven by her intense passion for ecology, parks, wilderness, and freshwater studies.  This passion fuels her interest in measuring sociological and natural processes as well as the effects of environmental policies on Indigenous Groups.  Amelia is described as Thoughtful, Engaged and Hard Working.

Norbert is the recipient of the 2026 Joe Chowaniec Scholarship for Non – Members Award. Norbert is in his fourth year of the Conservation Biology undergraduate program at the University of Alberta.  You would be reading for days if we mentioned all of Norbert’s Accomplishments, and what his professors had to say about him but in short words like Enthusiastic, Remarkable, Active, Natural Leader, Respectful, Intelligent.  He also received an award for his Contagious Character.

Karin Mohoric is the recipient of the 2024 Joe Chowaniec Scholarship for Members.  Karin grew up on a small family sheep farm in Slovenia but moved to Alberta in 2014.  Though concerned with her English proficiency, Karin earned a diploma with honours in Chemical Technology from NAIT and has now entered the Environmental Practice program at Royal Roads University.

Hadi Mokarizadeh is the recipient of the 2024 Joe Chowaniec Scholarship for a Non-Member.  Hadi is undertaking a PhD in Environmental Engineering with a focus on the application of solar driven advanced oxidation processes for the Treatment of Oil Sands Process Water.  As his PhD Supervisor says in his glowing reference: “Hadi’s research is very important for the Safeguarding of Human and Environmental Health”.
