Sustainability & Environment Coordinator (Contract)

Overview:

This position assists the Manager of S&E, NAB, to optimize environmental management practices throughout the NAB market area, and supports all product line operational efforts to identify risks, comply with environmental legal and Lafarge requirements. This position will work to operationalize and track sustainability commitments in the market area and support data collection and reporting, while being an advocate for Lafarge’ sustainability strategy and improved sustainability performance. This position requires working with the S&E Manager to develop, maintain, and implement the Environment Management System (EMS) and all related elements.

Responsibilities:

– Support Lafarge health and safety commitment by ensuring all work is executed in a safe manner. Obeys all safety guidelines at Lafarge operations and construction sites.
– Identify opportunities and develop, assemble, and update environmental materials required for NAB operations to meet company EMS requirements.
– Provide support, implementation, management, and guidance for site operations regarding compliance with provincial and federal regulations, municipal bylaws, corporate environmental requirements, and industry standards.
– Manage NAB operations’ monitoring and sampling programs (air, water, and soil), including performing field sampling, and ensure programs are tracked and reported.
– Perform environmental audits and inspections according to company standards, and work with operations to address issues.
– Perform erosion and sediment control monitoring and general environmental monitoring for project work; create and revise construction environmental management plans as required.
– Compile area environment data, present summaries, and submit reports to the Environment Manager and operations personnel when requested.
– Assist with applications for approvals, licenses and permits, for new or existing operations.
– Assist with environmental and sustainability training programs for NAB Lafarge personnel, and ensure adequate records are maintained.
– Assist with environmental Key Performance Indicator (KPI) assessments of NAB operations.
– Keep current with all federal, provincial, and local environmental legal requirements, and advise the Environment Manager and operations personnel of key changes.
– Assist in the completion and submission of required regulatory reports for NAB operations.
– Assist with local due diligence projects for acquisitions, divestments, or information requests / evaluations as needed.
– Assist operations in responding to environmental incidents, and resolving environmental issues.
– Assist with community relations and public affairs programs and be an ambassador for Lafarge’s sustainability programs.
– Assist with the implementation and support of Regional and Global Lafarge Environmental Sustainability initiatives.
– Serve as a role model in areas of leadership, teamwork, customer focus, continuous improvement, safety, and environmental stewardship to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors.
– Provide project management as needed for day-to-day activities, and special projects.
– Participate with various environmental award application preparation/submittals (internal, government, industry, NGOs).

Qualification Profile:
Education:
– Minimum technical diploma, or University degree in Earth Sciences, Biology, Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering, or Chemical Engineering

Experience:
– Prior experience conducting environmental compliance audits and sampling is required
– Experience working with operations through a corporate function
– Experience working with stakeholders and dealing with public affairs matters considered an asset
– Experience developing, facilitating and delivering environmental training
