Brief Posting Description

One Permanent, Full-Time Position.

Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our Environment team.

Reporting to the Senior Consultant, Environment the Senior Specialist, Environment is accountable for the delivery of effective environmental support with a focus on Business Development opportunities. The Senior Specialist, Environment operates within the context and prescribed limits established by the Senior Consultant, Environment.

Detailed Description

Key accountabilities include:

· Provide strategic planning and direction for environmental permitting and approvals. Lead the development and submission of environmental applications for new and existing power generation facilities in Canada and the United States.

· Lead environmental due-diligence activities for acquisitions and development opportunities in Canada and the United States. Develops and implements integration plans for new acquisitions.

· Provide environmental support and direction for the construction of renewable and other power generation projects. This includes the preparation of accurate and timely technical reports and regulatory applications, identification and management of project risks, and identification and management of budget requirements.

· Support the development and continual improvement of Capital Power’s environmental management systems.

· Ensure optimal deliverables through effective cross-functional accountability and authority practices (when relevant) within Senior Specialist’s context and prescribed limits.

· Monitor organizational adherence to environmental policies, standards and processes.

· Require CP employees to stop work if environmental compliance is at risk.

· Manage outsourced Environmental services.

· Provide input and support to environmental compliance systems and programs.

· Proactively develop and manage collaborative relationships with external regulators and stakeholders.

· Prepare strategic communications and work plans to resolve complex environmental or regulatory issues.

· Provides input into post-project reviews.

· Promote and nurture a high-performance, high-discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented organization that is easy to do business with.

· Ensure the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics. Metrics include proactively meeting customer expectations, on-time delivery of deliverables, budget management and delivery of technical expertise.

· Monitor organizational adherence to environmental policies, standards and processes.

· Manage environmental risks, issues and incidents to mitigate impacts and identify corrective actions.

· Effectively engage applicable functional groups in the company in environmental matters related to their area of responsibility.

· Other responsibilities as assigned to support ongoing environmental compliance and management.

Job Requirements

Education:
· Post-secondary education in Environment Sciences, Business, Engineering or other relevant discipline.

Experience:

· Strong foundation in the environmental sciences.

· Thorough understanding of environmental regulatory and permitting processes in Canada and the United States. Direct experience with renewable and thermal power generation projects is desirable.

· 7 to 10 years relevant experience with exposure to industrial facilities and developments.

· Strong understanding and demonstrated experience developing and managing environmental management systems.

Technical Skills:

· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to prepare concise technical summaries and reports.

· Process management: the ability to develop, implement and manage processes and procedures with respect to the gathering, analysis and dissemination of key environmental metrics and data.

· General understanding of the power generation business and associated environmental risks.

· Strong project management and presentation skills.
