Are you looking to…

• Supervise and direct remediation and reclamation projects of varying complexity and in a variety of environmental settings.
• Work with project managers, senior professionals, and other field staff to compete remediation/reclamation activities, and return land use to pre-disturbance conditions including:
• Develop remediation/reclamation work plans, coordinating subcontractors, project budgeting, and scheduling
• Assess and delineate areas of potential environmental concern using hand sampling tools, drill rigs, and excavators.
• Provide field level direction on ex-situ and in-situ remediation programs, ensuring that impacted soil and groundwater is remediated to the remedial objectives.
• Provide field-level direction on reclamation projects to ensure sites are put on a trajectory to meet an equivalent land capability
• Train and mentor junior remediation and reclamation professionals
• Interact and work with a community of technical experts from other Matrix regions

As a Remediation and Reclamation Field Supervisor, you will join our Edmonton, AB office. The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of field programs with responsibilities as follows:

• Active participation in maintaining Matrix’s strong safety culture, including ensuring work is executed safely and in accordance with client and Matrix safety standards, including supervising ground disturbance preparation activities
• Represent Matrix onsite and develop relationships with local stakeholders, clients, and regulators
• Lead routine to complex remediation and reclamation programs
• Develop field level plans to ensure contractors and equipment are utilized efficiently on projects
• Prepare for ground disturbance including submitting One Calls, filling out ground disturbance packages and supervising line locators and hydrovacs
• Supervise and coordinate field contractors and a variety of heavy equipment
• Communicate with project managers and technical advisors regarding project progress, execution, scope changes and making field-based recommendations
• Support and mentor junior staff members providing on the job training in the field.
• Learn, understand, and apply regulations related to reclamation of oil and gas sites and ensure regulatory requirements are met as part of project execution

What We Are Looking For
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience leading assessment, reclamation and remediation projects for industrial clients within a consulting environment. Equivalent experience in similar disciplines may also be accepted.
• Demonstrated experience with supervising ground disturbance projects of varying complexity
• Field experience on projects directing/leading multiple contractors
• Experience in a Prime contractor role would be an asset
• Experience in project coordination and management would be an asset (e.g., creating remediation/reclamation work plans, cost estimates and project plans based on specified timelines and budgets)
• Additional environmental assessment experience would also be an asset (e.g., groundwater monitoring, Phase 2 ESAs) but training can also be provided
• A strong safety mindset
• Knowledge of the Alberta Tier 1 and 2 remediation guidelines and reclamation criteria in Alberta
• Self-motivated and possess strong communication skills
• Ability to provide direction and mentorship to more junior professionals
• A valid and clean driver’s license with no restrictions
• A degree or technical diploma in environmental science, geology, hydrogeology, or engineering would be considered an asset
• Eligibility for registration in or maintaining a good standing in a professional organization would be considered an asset
