We are currently looking for an environmental professional – risk assessment to join our Advisian team. The qualified individual will have a positive attitude with an interest in learning, and flexibility to work with a range of individuals.

Purpose:

The Principal Risk Assessor Professional will provide services to the Liability Management, Decommissioning & Restoration group. The successful candidate will have at least 10 years of experience in environmental management of contaminated sites, and strong interpersonal, management and leadership skills. The successful candidate will be organized, detail oriented and good at multi-tasking to support the successful completion of a variety of different work assignments. The ideal candidate must have experience with complex spreadsheets, mathematics and statistical analysis, data management and report writing. The ideal candidate must also have a range of experience in human health and/or ecological risk assessment, be well versed in project management and must be able to provide direction to junior and intermediate staff. Experience in toxicology, permitting and valid safety training relevant to the area would be a benefit.
This is a full-time role with opportunity to work out of several Advisian offices across North America depending on your location.

Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:

As our ideal candidate for this dynamic and challenging role, your responsibilities will consist of the following tasks:
• Provide management support for small to large and simple to complex environmental projects;
• Maintain client relationships using good management practices;
• Maintain an excellent working knowledge of local regulations. Knowledge of the regulatory framework in other jurisdictions is also considered an asset;
• Participate in business development initiatives to grow our business;
• Complete work assignments on time and on budget;
• Conduct project reviews, as needed;
• Provide technical project support, as needed; and
• Provide mentorship, direction and skill assignments to junior staff.

Technical and Industry Experience:

• Must have a range of experience with Human Health Risk Assessment and Ecological Risk Assessment (HHERA)
• At least 10 years of consulting experience in contaminated sites, working for a range of clients.
• Strong technical background in one or more of the following areas: environmental sciences / engineering, earth sciences, chemistry, geology / hydrogeology, agrology, biology.
• Experience managing complex environmental issues.
• Skills in developing innovative technical solutions.
• Experience with statistical evaluation and mathematics, data management and reporting.
• Experience with regulatory permitting, remediation / reclamation technologies and current HSE certifications are an asset but not necessary.
• Strong interpersonal, management and leadership skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with strong written and verbal skills.
• Ability to support business development, client management, project management and project review.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

• A relevant university degree in environmental engineering, chemistry, biology, geology or some other science / engineering-based degree. Preference will be given to candidates with a graduate degree although this is not necessary.
• Professional registration is an asset but is not required.
• Membership to the Society of Contaminated Sites Approved Professionals of British Columbia would be considered an asset.
• Certification as a Diplomat of the American Board of Toxicology would be considered an asset.
